Welcome to WHYLD Country

The WHYLD district is located in the Upper Yarra Valley within the Shire of Yarra Ranges in a rural and bushland environment on the eastern fringe of Melbourne. The Warburton Highway, Yarra River and Warburton Trail all traverse the WHYLD community in an east-west direction. The largest town on the highway from Melbourne is Woori Yallock with a range of shops, businesses, Community Bank and Post Office. Further shops and businesses are dotted along the highway through Launching Place. South of the highway on the Healesville Koo-Wee Rup Road lies Yellingbo with a General Store. Primary Schools form the central hub for the towns of Hoddles Creek and Don Valley, lying south and north of the highway respectively.

CFA buildings are situated in Hoddles Creek, Yellingbo, Don Valley and Woori Yallock. The river and creek flats and undulating hills of the WHYLD district make it a prime agricultural area with vineyards, orchards, berries, market gardens, flowers and pasture. Nearby forests such as Kurth Kiln Regional Park and Yellingbo Conservation Reserve provide opportunities for bushwalking, bird-watching and camping. The Yarra River and smaller waterways provide access for recreational fishing.
