Welcome to WHYLD Country

The WHYLD district is located in the Upper Yarra Valley within the Shire of Yarra Ranges in a rural and bushland environment on the eastern fringe of Melbourne. The Warburton Highway, Yarra River and Warburton Trail all traverse the WHYLD community in an east-west direction. The largest town on the highway from Melbourne is Woori Yallock with a range of shops, businesses, Community Bank and Post Office. Further shops and businesses are dotted along the highway through Launching Place. South of the highway on the Healesville Koo-Wee Rup Road lies Yellingbo with a General Store. Primary Schools form the central hub for the towns of Hoddles Creek and Don Valley, lying south and north of the highway respectively.

CFA buildings are situated in Hoddles Creek and Yellingbo with a shared facility for the other three towns at Hillcrest in Woori Yallock. The river and creek flats and undulating hills of the WHYLD district make it a prime agricultural area with vineyards, orchards, berries, market gardens, flowers and pasture. Nearby forests such as Kurth Kiln Regional Park and Yellingbo Conservation Reserve provide opportunities for bushwalking, bird-watching and camping. The Yarra River and smaller waterways provide access for recreational fishing.

Get yourself down there this Saturday and buy a sausage... ... See MoreSee Less

What a great day we had today at our butcher's BBQ. We got to use the new BBQ which was financed by our local Bendigo Bank at Woori Yallock (Wydcom Financial Services). The old BBQ which Rod Brookes has been using for the last 18 years has finally been retired. The rain was a welcome relief from all the hot weather of late. We raised $212.20 today which will be distributed to the 4 local schools for Kids In Need. These are kids in our local schools whose families are facing hardship. This money might help to buy a new pair of shoes, clothing or even make it possible for a child to go on an excursion which may not otherwise have been possible. Thank you to all the helpers today and once again to Rod Brooke, our local legend of a butcheŕ for the sausages. ... See MoreSee Less

$171.20 That is how much we collected yesterday from our butcher's BBQ in sausage sales and donations. We thought it was a bit slow at first but then it became quite busy. We had to call on Rod Brooke several times for more sausages. Thank you once again Rod for your generosity in supplying the sausages, BBQ and gas to make this possible. This money is going to Holy Fools in Lilydale who provide Christmas Dinner for those in need. ... See MoreSee Less
